Hey Zelda fans! Back with another weekly Legend of Zelda Dungeon Discussion! And to make suggestions heard for next week's.
Upvote to encourage discussion! It's definitely not linear. I didn't like this dungeon to be honest. I thought MM's dungeons were very frustrating, except for the Stone Tower.I don't know, I thought that it was fine until the big central pillar came into play. It messed up navigation, and I would always hit one too many ice disks, so I'd have to go all the way to the bottom then go back to the second floor then hit the button then hit the other to make the pillar go back.
Then I'd punch the disks, get what I needed, then in order to get to the next place, I had to totally reset the pillar again, blah blah blah. It was so tedious. Also, the runway with the ramp in one of the first rooms was awful. That ladder back up was so long. As you can probably tell, I'm not too fond of this dungeon. Lol.Goht was really cool, though.
You know, I never realized that you could screw up the ice disk puzzle and have to reset the pillar. The first few times I played it, I just went about hitting the ice disks as I saw fit, and never had a problem with it.
Then one day, I found out online that you could actually screw it up, and I was like, 'well you'd probably have to go really out of your way to screw it up, since I think it flows pretty naturally.' Now, every single time I play that dungeon, I somehow screw up the ice disks.
Fml.Yeah that ramp you have to roll along on the outer edge of the main room is super annoying when you fall off of it.Goht was really cool. My only gripe is that the ground is designed in such a way that theres really only one section that is straight/level enough for you to get the Goron Roll going. The whole rest of that room, there's always a little bump somewhere that you hit that makes your charge reset itself. I always enjoy this dungeon. That being said, I'd still rate the two following dungeons higher.
I hate collecting the Stray Fairies in this dungeon due to that one that's really, really difficult to reach. The music is a bit tedious and my least favourite dungeon theme of Majora's Mask.Mini-Boss is okay, not amazing or bad, just in the middle.Fire Arrows are a great weapon in every Zelda game they appear, it's a nice contrast to the dungeon being snow/ice based (for the most part).I like that the boss room is situated on the top floor of this immensely tall structure, you literally have to climb to the top to finish the dungeon, and I always like that. There's a great sense of achievement upon reaching the boss room.Goht is a fantastic boss and probably my second favourite in Majora's Mask, though I find the room to be incredibly bland.
I much prefer his battle in MM 3D than the normal version.I love the atmosphere and the enemies in the dungeon though. For next week's dungeon topic, I'd like to request: Sandship from Skyward Sword.Overall Look and Theme of the Dungeon: Unfortunately, I felt like it was really bland. It's just a little too plain, and doesn't have anywhere near as much character as most other temples in the series. Screenshots from the new 3DS version look much more interesting.Bosses and Mini-bosses: Difficulty, Creativity, Innovation: Both are really easy. I'm pretty ambivalent about Wizrobe. Goht is fun enough that the rest doesn't bother me. Goht gets a few points for being different from your average boss, and making good use of the goron rolling.Key Items of the Dungeon and their Application: Fire arrow.
Works pretty well, definitely has more uses than it did in OoT. A little disappointing since you get the bow in Woodfall, and there's not all that much difference.Enemy Type (Difficulty, Uniqueness, Number): It's been awhile, so it's a little tough to say. Seems like there weren't all that many enemies, a few wolfos, freezards, and eenos. All quite easy to get rid of.Overall Length, Diffficulty, and Flow of the Dungeon: All things considered, it's pretty short, kind of has to be with the three days feature.
Sort of an issue with all the dungeons in Majora's Mask.Puzzles: Difficulty, Creativity, Innovation: Nothing too tricky, I liked punching out the layers in the central tower. A few interesting bits here and there, but pretty simple overall. Could have better utilized the goron's resistance to lava.Potential for Exploration vs Linear Design: Probably it's best feature. I like the vertical nature of the temple, it's fitting for the inside of a mountain. You do some backtracking through rooms, but generally on a different floor, and it changes things up nicely.Replayability: It's ok, Goht is fun which helps.Storyline Implcations: Nothing major. Darmani is a good story, and bringing spring back has some good story elements to it.Dungeon Theme Music and Atmosphere: Same issue I have with the rest of the dungeon. It's just plain, missing something to really set it apart and make it something special and interesting.
Dungeon looks pretty good imo for what it is, its basically a huge cave inside of a mountain. The minibosses (wizrobe) were pretty fun, I imagine could be difficult for new comers, Its a cool miniboss though. The boss (goht) is probably my favorite zelda boss ever. Its so much fun just going into goron link and just rolling around while trying to hit it.The length isnt too bad, probably a medium dungeon, apparently you can mess up the ice disks, but I've never done it, its not that complicated, but I imagine if you messed up the ice disks it could get annoying.Back tracking wasnt too bad once you got ice arrows as there were tons of short cuts. Its nothing to crazy, its not like stone tower temple which is probably the best temple in the game, I dont rate the temples in MM that farly apart from eachother as they are all good in their own respects. I wouldnt say that temple is anymore worth replaying than the first dungeonall the discussions so far have been about the 3D zelda games, lets get some discussion on some of the 2D zelda games. Imo blinds hideout is a great one to discuss:). I felt like the boss for this dungeon was one of the more enjoyable boss fights from MM.
As for the music, I didn't think it was bad, but I also didn't think it was that great. I enjoyed the Stone Tower Temple theme a lot more. The pillars in the middle were definitely interesting, but I didn't find out how to manipulate them during my first playthrough of the dungeon and actually ran out of time and had to redo the temple. The exterior of the dungeon was pretty cool imo. Overall, I felt like the dungeon was average with an above-average boss.
